It seems to me it does wrong in 2 senses.

1. US Americans are forced to pay more for products and "USA may be forced to set up unwanted production capacity".

2. China is relatively poor and, for real, does not represent any military threat. Given this poverty, I think China is justified in seeking prosperity and happiness for its people by setting the currency as they please and using their cheap labour force to produce cheap products for exports, also to USA. There is no possibility to say that China "rips" off USA for obvious reasons.
(Militarily, sending those nukes as ICBM has only limited military threat potential and I see no signals from China that they "sway" such threats, even faintly. Besides, we have our own measures against such "basic" attacks, defending the World on grounds of human rights, UDHR, and (progress to better) Democracy and Capitalism under it all by democratic laws and regulations, facilitating Utopia in some foreseeable future!)

Thus, Pres. Trump seems to be at war with economic fundamentals! (Which is not so bad as being at war with truth!)

Though, I support the "strategic" protectionism on basis of those aluminium metals and steel for "military preparedness" yet no imminent military conflict to speak of. Also the competence issues relating to this preparedness.Dr. Lukas F.
